Profile / Where music meets technology

Profile

Osky DJ is the stage name Oscar Hernández has used since 2016. He is an electronic music DJ with experience in music production and live performance, and what sets him apart is how he brings technology, software and performance together in real-world settings, not just in the studio.

01

Background

Oscar has been playing since he was 15, around 1997, starting out at private parties. His first public recognition came at the Morelia International Book Fair (Feria Internacional del Libro de Morelia).

His name in the booth has changed over the years: he started out as Mosco DJ, until around 2010; from 2010 to 2015 he played as DJ Oscar Hernández, and since 2016 he has been Osky DJ.

He has played for brands such as Jägermeister, Dobel, Tradicional, Tequila Azul and Banorte, and for clients of NINJA, the agency where he works.

02

The DJ

His favorite genres are techno, progressive and tech house, though he's a dynamic DJ who will mix any genre. At parties, he loves doing mashups across different genres.

As a service, he plays private events. Every now and then he also plays clubs as a guest or in b2b (back-to-back) sets, purely for the love of it.

The gear

  • In the booth: Pioneer XDJ-RX3, or CDJ-3000s with a DJM-V10 mixer.
  • DJ software: Rekordbox and VirtualDJ.
  • Production and audio: Ableton Live and Adobe Audition.

The engineer behind the decks

Away from the dance floor, Oscar holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from ESCOM at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional and is the technology director at NINJA Brand Fighters, where he has spent more than 15 years building technology for events, interactive experiences and digital platforms.

That background shapes how he approaches live music:

  • he builds his own software for shows and uses tools such as Resolume Arena, Magic Music Visuals, vMix, TouchDesigner and QLab;
  • he designs and runs real-time systems for live events (streaming, video and audio);
  • he has designed recording booths, studios and technical setups.

His developer side lives at hernandez.systems.
